The topic of last month’s Carnival of Genealogy was 2011 Genealogy Plans, which got me thinking about where I’d like to go this year and what I’m likely to accomplish. After giving it some thought, I realize 2011 is shaping up to be a pretty ambitious year for me 
Education & Advancement in Genealogy:
- Successfully complete the Boston University Genealogical Research Program
- Successfully complete parts II and III of the National Society of Genealogy course
- Become an invaluable member of the Erie Historical Society’s research team (a nice thought)
The BU program starts Thursday, and I have to admit I’m feeling a bit intimidated at this point. Part I of the NSG course is just about behind me…still waiting on a birth certificate from the PA Bureau of Vital Statistics..grrrrrrr. And my volunteer work at the historical society is really fun and fulfilling, and I definitely will improve on my local records research skills.
Research
- Family trip to England (just a guise for my real purpose, which is to take a genealogy field trip!!)
- During the trip, find the birth of Nicolas Collins (who puzzles me by day and haunts me at night)
- And, discover where those pesky Caversham Turners really came from
- AND, sort out the Too Many John Denchfields of North Marston mess once and for all
The trip is going to be amazing. And there are actually quite a few more bits of research I’d like to complete, but if I could at least get the above accomplished I will have taken some giant leaps forward in the family history.
Writing
- Complete and publish the Turner-Collins Genealogy – a book for my family, near and far
- Write on this blog at least once a week, yup, that’s 52 articles
That first goal is going to depend a lot on what I accomplish on the field trip across the pond. I’m really close to finishing the written portions, but the cleaning up of the footnotes and sources is going to be a bear.
Making a once a week (at minimum) commitment to write on the blog is giving me a warm, cozy, happy sort of feeling. Getting the new website sections up and running (an article for another day…..) has consumed most of the last three days. But it’s starting to evolve into something I know I’m going to be really proud of. Still got a ways to go though….in fact, writing this is bringing to mind another couple of goals:
- clean up the source citations for the Turner Collins tree.
- Move all the custom sentence info into fact notes on Rootsmagic4
Once those two things are complete, the database will be “company ready”
Whew!!!! I’m tired already, but I definitely feel inspired
That’s it for now…have to go get busy

Right at the moment I’m feeling a bit (okay, MAJORLY)overwhelmed about the Drummond assignment, so I’m taking the day off I think. My family will appreciate this! I am loving the class so far, especially the chance to meet so many people with similar interests. Some are SO knowledgable it’s almost intimidating!! I’m learning a lot
